Why Homemade Haven Exists

Lowering everyday exposure to synthetic chemicals isn’t
about perfection.

It’s about reducing what you can, where you can.

Homemade Haven helps people better understand and control
what they use in their homes through simple DIY cleaning products, toiletries,
and skincare made with fewer, more intentional ingredients.

We also aim to avoid unnecessary plastics wherever possible,
choosing amber glass and kraft packaging to protect ingredient quality and
reduce waste.

A Note From The Founder

Homemade Haven began with my own health journey. Living with FA, a mitochondrial dysfunction, led me to become more aware of everyday exposure to environmental chemicals—not only through food, but through the products we clean with, wash with, and apply to our skin.

When I explored DIY alternatives, I found the process unnecessarily complex. Ingredients were often sold in commercial quantities rather than DIY-friendly sizes, and sourcing them from multiple suppliers—along with associated postage costs—quickly made DIY cost-prohibitive.

What Makes Us Different

    Our ingredients are thoughtfully sourced. Organic where possible and prioritised for what they do and how clearly they’re understood, rather than what’s trending.

    We aim to minimise plastic use wherever practical, including in both our packaging and postage. Where possible, we opt for paper-based and recyclable materials.

  • A deliberate choice of amber glass

    Amber glass helps protect ingredients from light and UV exposure. While it’s breakable, it’s a considered trade-off designed to support ingredient integrity and reuse.

    You don’t need specialist equipment to get started. Our recipes are designed for small batches and everyday kitchens. As you progress, simple tools like a double boiler can be helpful but never essential.
